MOSCOW, Jul 6 (PRIME) -- The Federal Service for Natural Resources Oversight has evaluated the damage inflicted on the environment by a diesel fuel spill in the city of Norilsk at almost 148 billion rubles, the service said in a statement on Monday.

“The Federal Service for Natural Resources Oversight has calculated the damage and sent claims for voluntary compensation of the damage inflicted by Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company (NTEK, part of metals giant Norilsk Nickel). The calculation includes 147.046 billion rubles of damage inflicted on water bodies through pollution and 738.617 million rubles of damage inflicted on soil,” the statement read.

A fuel tank at Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company lost pressure on May 29 and leaked out 21,000 tonnes of fuel and lubricants into the river Ambarnaya, causing a fire.
